The Spectator Hotel Now Open in Historic Charleston District

A luxury hotel emblematic of Charleston’s rich history, The Spectator Hotel is now open in the heart of the bustling French Quarter and Market Street Districts. At the corner of State and Linguard Streets, the three-level, 41-room property draws upon inspiration from the roaring twenties era and offers the utmost in sincere hospitality.


For developers and Charleston natives Batson Hewitt and Jay Keenan, The Spectator Hotel is a culmination of their personal hotel experiences in their hometown. With the help of architect Steve Ramos at LS3P Associates Ltd and interior designer Jenny Keenan, they view the hotel as a crown jewel for the city.


The Spectator Hotel was promptly named in the development process and this early identity was a guiding force in the progression of the final concept. Named after the iconic spectator shoe of the 20s and 30s, homage to the name is represented in architecture and experience as witnessed in the curvaceous styling of the wrought iron railings, reminiscent of the shoe’s discernable stitching, and in the timeless hospitality. Ramos and Keenan drew upon inspiration from the eclectic art-deco style and their collaboration has brought the vision to life.


“Guests at The Spectator Hotel are surrounded by beauty and carefully crafted fashion, form and elegance”, says Keenan. “Vintage touches and high-styled Hollywood glamour are complemented by modern sensibilities.”


Offering the utmost in guest service, the hotel takes personalized offerings to a new level under the leadership of general manager Brent Gresham. The genuine customer service begins with the offering of pre-arrival concierge planning in which a personal butler customizes stays based on preferences, including planning and booking itineraries for travelers. Throughout guests’ time in the Lowcountry, a butler is available for further requests, ensuring an unforgettable time in the Holy City. Diverse packages ranging from culinary exploration to historical teachings enhance the customized options. To boast, the hotel offers a fleet of complimentary bicycles including antique replicas, high wheels and tandems, giving guests the opportunity to freely explore the charming city on their own set of wheels.


Rooms are adorned with Lowcountry millwork and specialty-crafted furniture from Indonesia, insuring both comfort and superb style.
